Sam Byram joined West Ham United from Leeds United in the January transfer window.
West Ham United defender Sam Byram has told the club’s official website that pressure at Leeds United has helped him prepare for life in the Premier League.
Byram, who can play as a right-back or as a right-winger, joined Premier League club West Ham from Championship outfit Leeds in the January transfer window.
During his time at the West Yorkshire outfit, the 23-year-old was rated as one of the best young players in the Championship.
The Englishman has yet to take the Premier League by storm, perhaps due to injury problems, but he has made some encouraging performances.
Byram has explained how playing for Leeds, one of the biggest clubs of England who regularly get crowds of over 20,000 for their home matches even in the Championship, has prepared him to cope with pressure.
“You hear it a lot with players who go to Leeds and struggle to cope with the pressure,” Byram told West Ham’s official website.
“But I played there for three seasons and enjoyed my time there and got used to that pressure. It is something you have to take in your stride and you have to deal with it.
“It is something that has helped me massively with the big move to West Ham and being able to play in front of a bigger crowd who have high expectations for the season.”
There is pressure on the West Ham players at the moment, as the team are not doing well.
The Hammers are currently third from bottom in the Premier League and desperately need to pick up points.
Slaven Bilic’s side will take on Middlesbrough at the London Stadium in the league on Saturday afternoon.
