The Leeds United and West Ham United men were among the well wishers.
Former Leeds United striker Robbie McDaid joined York City on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old was snapped up by City in a deal which will see him stay at Bootham Crescent until the rest of the season at least.
It is the Northern Irishman’s first contract in football following his release from Leeds this past summer.

But it seems like he retained a few friends from his time with the Whites as a number of United men, past and present – including West Ham United’s Sam Byram and Leeds left-back Tyler Denton – sent their best wishes to him on Twitter recently.

McDaid was clearly a popular figure at Elland Road but his release signified a belief among the youth coaches that he was not good enough to make the grade.
He was considered a fine prospect for a lot of his Leeds career, but the youngster never made it as far as the first team, and four goals in 17 Conference outings on loan at Lincoln City last term effectively ended his hopes of being retained by the Yorkshire club.
The striker found himself behind the likes of Malik Wilks, Eoghan Stokes and Frank Mulhern at youth level, but he will be determined to rebuild his career under manager Jackie McNamara at York.
