Everton are continuing to struggle under Sam Allardyce in 2018.
Everton’s 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal on Saturday night has left fans somewhat frustrated with life under manager Sam Allardyce.
The Toffees were dismantled in North London, as Aaron Ramsey’s hat-trick – as well as goals from Laurent Koscielny and Gunners debutant Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – handed Arsenal a thumping win.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal little more than a consolation, Everton tasted defeat again, and it’s now just one league win in the last eight games, as the early bounce from Allardyce’s appointment seems to have gone.
Having initially dropped just two point in his first four games in charge, Allardyce is now struggling for consistency, and the disjointed, disorganised make-up of this Everton side is totally uncharacteristic of usual Allardyce teams.
The problem for Allardyce is that his contract only runs until the end of next season, meaning the Toffees may not be deterred from getting out of the deal early, especially with Farhad Moshiri’s top target now available.
Everton’s majority shareholder wanted to land Marco Silva in November but was rebuffed by Watford, only for the Hornets to sack the Portuguese boss last month following a poor run of form.
The Sun claimed that Everton offered £12million for Silva, but the 40-year-old is now available for nothing, and even after his dip at Watford, Moshiri could yet be tempted into a move.
Allardyce’s recent form is concerning, and whilst he will almost certainly get until the end of the season to prove himself as Everton manager, Silva’s availability means that Allardyce isn’t safe on his 18-month contract – especially with results and performances less than impressive.
