Sam Allardyce’s latest excuse about loaning out Everton’s Ademola Lookman makes no sense

Everton attacker Ademola Lookman scored on his debut for Red Bull Leipzig at the weekend.

Sam Allardyce has suggested to the Liverpool Echo that the reason he didn’t pick Ademola Lookman for Everton, was because of Yannick Bolasie’s price-tag.

Bolasie cost £30 million to sign from Crystal Palace, and he has been regularly picked since returning from injury.

The tricky winger has not looked particularly sharp, as he attempts to return from injury.

However, Allardyce showed faith in Bolasie by loaning out Ademola Lookman to Red Bull Leipzig to ensure that the Congolese wide-man kept his place.

The decision has not gone down well at Goodison Park, especially after Lookman scored on his Leipzig debut.

And Allardyce’s excuse for not playing Lookman doesn’t really make sense.

“I’ve got Yannick Bolasie who cost thirty million quid and Theo Walcott who cost twenty million quid and both have a lot more experience than Lookman, so no,” he said to the Liverpool Echo.

Allardyce’s words would have more meaning if he stuck by it throughout the team.

Allardyce has had no problem dropping Gylfi Sigurdsson, who cost £50 million from bring in from Swansea.

Everton should know more than most that price-tag do not define a player’s quality either, as Seamus Coleman – who was brought in for a minuscule fee from Ireland – remains one of their top players.

Allardyce also left Cenk Tosun on the bench in Everton’s most recent match against Arsenal, and he cost considerably more than Oumar Niasse, who was selected to start.

And Allardyce may have to come up with a more valid reasoning for sending Lookman out on loan, if he is to receive more acceptance from Everton fans over the decision.
