Sam Allardyce has suggested that Everton should aim to maintain their current position in the Premier League next term.

Farhad Moshiri has just been offered a sign as to why he shouldn’t keep Sam Allardyce at Everton, through the Toffees boss’s own comments in the Liverpool Echo.

Allardyce has come under pressure at Everton for failing to deliver the brand of football that the Goodison Park crowd craves.

However, he has improved their results and taken them up to eighth in the Premier League table.

There is still a feeling that Everton have fallen short of expectations this term, but Allarydce is keen to rein in the ambition for next season too.

He said, when asked about his aims for next term: “I think where we are – seventh last year, eighth at the moment – we want to try to maintain that position.

”But it all depends on the recruitment in the summer.”

Allardyce’s admission that Everton’s main aim should be to maintain their current position position in the Premier League should be evidence that he shouldn’t be kept on.

Moshiri has constantly talked up Everton’s desire to break into the European spots and eventually the top four.

Whether that is realistic remains to be seen, but Moshiri has already proven willing to part with large sums of money to improve the side.

And the Everton owner should be looking for a manager who talks up the Toffees’ ambitions, rather than plays them down in public.
