The Uruguayan international is a free agent after leaving Juventus in the summer and Crystal Palace are keen.

Sam Allardyce confirmed today that he is interested in the signature of former Juventus defender Martin Caceres.

The Selhurst Park boss was speaking to the press today ahead of Palace’s meeting with Bournemouth in the Premier League tomorrow night.

He was unveiling the new signing of former Sunderland left-back Patrick van Aanholt when he confirmed there was a possibility of signing the former Juventus man:

If he did pull off the signature, it would be a throwback to his glory days in the transfer market during his time as manager at Bolton Wanderers.

Caceres is an illustrious target who has played for teams such as Barcelona and Juventus. He has one La Liga and Champions League medal to his name as well as five Serie A crowns.

Allardyce managed to convince some massive names to join him at Bolton during his time at the club. The likes of Ivan Campo, Jay Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff and Nicolas Anelka all played under him with the Trotters.

Caceres would be a similar signing, giving a chance to a player who has fallen hard on his luck but clearly has plenty still to offer.
