Patrick van Aanholt’s past quotes about Sam Allardyce surely suggest he would be keen on a move to Everton in the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mirror, Everton want to sign Van Aanholt from Crystal Palace, as he is a player who Allardyce knows well.

And Van Aanholt’s comments when he signed for Palace, may suggest that a move to Goodison Park would appeal.

“Last year I worked with the manager Sam and as soon as he signed for Palace I thought there could be an opportunity,” The Dutch defender said to the London Evening Standard.

“I spoke to the manager a couple of times and he was really interested in signing me. It made my choice easy.”

Van Aanholt and Allardyce have now worked together twice, and a third reunion could be on the cards.

Everton need an injection of quality at the back, and a left-back could be on Allardyce’s wishlist.

Leighton Baines has shown signs of age this season, and Everton have the funds required to invest in a new full-back.

Whether Palace would be open to selling Van Aanholt, in the middle of a relegation battle, remains to be seen, but Everton may test their resolve.

Everton have had a disappointing campaign to date, but Allardyce got off to a winning start, by beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 in his first game in charge.
