Everton's English manager Sam Allardyce looks on before the English Premier League football match between Everton and Southampton at Goodison Park in Liverpool, north west England on May 5,...

Sam Allardyce has admitted he would be open an approach from West Bromwich Albion, but stressed he has had no contact from the Championship club.

The Baggies coach, James Shan, is expected to remain as caretaker manager until the summer, although Allardyce is among the favourites to succeed Darren Moore on a permanent basis thereafter.

Asked about the speculation linking him with the Hawthorns vacancy, the former Everton and England boss told Talksport: “I’ve had no contact from West Brom, I can assure you of that.

“It’s not a question of whether I want the job,” he added. “It’s a question of whether the club contact me personally or my agent and say what is the position, what do you want me to do, what do you expect me to do and what I think I’m capable of doing for West Brom, if it gets to that stage.

“And if eveybody is comfortable with that it may be a possibility.”

Allardyce was born in Dudley, West Midlands, and while he grew up a fan of West Brom’s local rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers, he has admitted in the past to having also gone, on the odd occasion, to watch the Baggies.

Albion remain in the hunt to join Wolves back in the top flight after winning all three of their matches since Shan took over.

They remain fourth in the standings, but are still six points off the top two with seven games remaining of the regular Championship season.
