Sam Allardyce has sent a message to Sunderland on Twitter, five days after leaving the Stadium of Light to become England manager.
The Mackems were criticised for failing to thank Allardyce – or even wish him luck – in their initial statement on Friday, shortly before his appointment was confirmed by the Football Association.

However, it does not appear to have left a sour taste in Allardyce’s mouth, as the 61-year-old took to social media for the first time as England boss.
“I would also like to take this time to thank Sunderland AFC – the staff, players & fans were wonderful throughout my tenure. #HawayTheLads“, he posted.
Allardyce masterminded Sunderland’s survival last season, having taken over last autumn with three points from a possible 24 to their name.

Even sweeter was the fact they survived at the expense of fierce rivals Newcastle United – making the veteran boss’s departure all the more difficult to bear.
The Mackems acted swiftly to replace him however, announcing the appointment of former Everton and Manchester United manager David Moyes the following morning.

The Wearside cub are yet to add to their playing squad this summer and the responsibility now lies with the Scot, with over a fortnight to go until the new season begins.
