Sam Allardyce revealed what he told Everton players ahead of West Ham clash.
Sam Allardyce gave his first press conference as Everton manager on Friday, and he touched upon various topics.
The 63-year-old vastly experienced manager was unveiled on Thursday night, and there was plenty of agenda for him to discuss.
He was present in the director’s box watching Everton’s clash against West Ham – a game which the Toffees won 4-0 against David Moyes’ side.
Allardyce was not in the running for the Everton vacant job initially. The Toffees were looking to lure Marco Silva from Watford, and only after they failed to sign him, they moved in quickly for the former Crystal Palace manager.
When asked on what he said to Everton players, Allardyce replied that he told the players to keep a clean sheet and get the opening goal.
“Normally when I come in we have less points than games,” said Allardyce, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“I spoke to the players and, not taking anything from David, and it was about keeping a clean sheet and scoring the first goal.”
The victory against West Ham saw Everton jump to 13th in the Premier League. Allardyce may not be a popular choice among the fans, but given his track record, he is the right man to take Everton out of their present mess.
