Sam Allardyce has told the Chronicle that Sunderland have already begun planning for the summer transfer window.
The Black Cats are expected to invest in their squad at the next opportunity, as they look to move forward as a club.
Sunderland have been perennially struggling against relegation in recent years, but Allardyce admits that narrowly avoiding the drop is no longer good enough.
Allardyce wants to ensure Sunderland’s Premier League status is far more secure next season, and he says that although he hasn’t looked into transfer targets – his recruitment team have been planning for some time.
“I haven’t, but my recruitment man has,” the 61-year-old boss said when asked if he’d started planning his transfers.
“We’ve had to put so much of it on hold because we didn’t know which league we would be in, so we will have to catch up with those who have been safe for quite a while.
“We’ll do that as quick as we can, but we have to be very thorough and make sure we make the right decisions one way or another.”
Allardyce’s transfer record at Sunderland has been highly impressive so far, with the club’s January transfer window being very productive.
The Black Cats brought in the likes of Lamine Kone, Wahbi Khazri and Jan Kirchhoff during January, and all three went on to impress.
The trio helped Sunderland’s form improve considerably, and the North East side ended up losing just one of their last 11 matches to confirm their Premier League survival.
