Sam Allardyce has told the Jim White Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 9th April, that Wayne Rooney still has a future at Everton.

Rooney was substituted off during Everton’s match against Liverpool at the weekend, and showed his frustration publicly.

Rooney has had mixed success in his first season back at Goodison Park, after a £10 million transfer from Manchester United last summer.

But Allardyce has suggested that Rooney will be at Goodison Park next season.

“I think that Wayne’s disappointment was frustration at the fact he was an Evertonian through and through and has been all his life. I think it was too much for him to take and he had to show his frustration,” Allardyce said.

“We’ll sit down in the next week, talk it through and see how he feels.

“I think the biggest thing on the day was how could I improve the team. We didn’t make just one, we made three and finished the game stronger than Liverpool.

“There’s no doubt about that [he has a future at Everton].”

Rooney started the season as a striker for Everton, but he has been used in central midfield more recently.

The 32-year-old has shown his quality on occasion, but the Merseyside derby did rather pass him by.

Rooney is Everton’s top scorer over the course of the campaign, having netted 11 goals in 37 appearances.

As yet it is unclear whether Allardyce will stick by Rooney for Everton’s next match against Swansea City, or whether he will be dropped.
