Well, Leeds United are finally back in the Premier League.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side effectively confirmed promotion with a narrow 1-0 win over Barnsley at Elland Road on Thursday night.
But West Bromwich Albion’s defeat at Huddersfield Town tonight has confirmed that Leeds will be going up next season.
This is the first time that the Whites will be gracing the Premier League since 2004, when financial problems led to them being relegated.
It’s been a long and hard 16-year period since – and one which included a spell in League One – but Leeds more than deserve promotion this season.
Sam Allardyce knows a thing or two about getting teams promoted and here’s how the veteran manager reacted to United’s success tonight.
He told Bein Sport: “It’s a fantastic achievement. Obviously they’ve waited for so long. They’ve threatened and finally made it after so many years. It’ll be great to have Leeds, another Yorkshire club, back in the Premier League. Now the hard work starts. It’s hard work getting there but it’s even harder staying there.”
They’re wise words from Allardyce, because staying up will be hard, but Leeds fans won’t care about that at all just yet.
For now, Bielsa, his players, his staff and everybody affiliated with the West Yorkshire club should celebrate this to the max because they’ve earned it.
