Newcastle United have failed to win either of their first two matches under Steve Bruce.

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Everton at Emirates Stadium on February 3, 2018 in London, England.

Sam Allardyce has questioned Newcastle United fans on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSport on 20th August.

Steve Bruce has started badly at Newcastle and come in for fierce criticism, after losing both his first two matches.

Newcastle’s were waiting until November for their first win in the Premier League last season though.

And Allardyce has questioned why Newcastle supporters were not given Rafael Benitez the same amount of criticism.

He said: “If Steve is getting some stick now, where was the stick for Rafa then?”

What Allardyce seems to have failed to realise is that by that point Benitez had earned the trust of the Newcastle supporters.

Benitez’s past record at St. James’ Park and beyond had meant that Newcastle fans had faith in him to turn things around.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez arrives before the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Liverpool at St. James's Park, Newcastle on Saturday 4th May 2019.

Newcastle went on to comfortably finish in mid-table last term, but there are doubts over whether they will be able to survive this season already forming.

Bruce was hardly a popular appointment when he first came to Newcastle, and his bad start has only increased the frustration around his arrival.

Newcastle are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur.
