Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has courted praise from his manager.
Speaking to Everton’s official website, Sam Allardyce admits that he cannot wait to see what a confident Yannick Bolasie can do.
The 28-year-old winger is yet to score or set up a goal for Everton in any competition since returning from his year-long absence with an injury in November.
But Bolasie, who has played 11 games under Allardyce, posted a brilliant performance on Saturday as the Toffees beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0, looking a constant threat.
It was the type of performance which made the Merseyside club shell out £30 million when signing him from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016.
And Allardyce has welcomed the idea of the “old” Bolasie coming to the forefront for his side.
“He was [fantastic with and without ball]. He improved the more it went on – the longer the game went on and the more we got the ball to him. And perhaps the game opened up a bit more [after the opening goal],” he told Everton’s official website.
“What I liked, is that when he produced the final ball that caused the first goal, his game got even better from then on. He got more confidence straightaway. He started running at them more, causing them more and more problems.
“It will be nice to see the old Yannick back on a consistent basis because I think he gives us good balance down the left-hand side.”
Bolasie has undoubted quality but no goals or assists in 11 games is a tad worrying. However, he was out for a very long time and perhaps Saturday’s performance, as Allardyce suggested, is a sign that he is getting back to his very best.
