Everton ace Cenk Tosun has rediscovered his goalscoring form.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce has praised the rejuvenated Cenk Tosun on the Toffees’ official website after the Turkish striker rediscovered his goalscoring form – just weeks after reportedly wanting him gone.
The 26-year-old has scored four goals in his last four Premier League outings, failing to net last time out against Manchester City but scoring a brace against Stoke City before the 3-1 loss on Saturday evening.
Allardyce was full of praise for the £27million January recruit, as he put a difficult start behind him to finally show just how lethal he can be in the final third following his move from Turkish champions Besiktas.
“He’s always had the finishing in his locker,” said Allardyce. “His hold-up play has got better. He’s got the whole array of finishing – heading, left foot, right foot, tap-ins, follow-ups – he’s got this knack of being in the right place at the right time.”
However, Allardyce’s comments come as somewhat of a u-turn if Turkish outlet Fotomac are to be believed, as they claimed in February that the former England manager had asked the Everton board to send him back to Turkey in the summer.
It is believed that Allardyce had requested the Everton hierarchy to send Tosun on loan to Besiktas in the summer, but his recent form is more than evidence enough to suggest that the Toffees will keep him in the side come 2018-19.
Tosun is likely to start once again over Dom Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse on Saturday, as the Toffees face bitter Merseyside rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park.
