Sam Allardyce praises Everton youngsters Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton were beaten 5-1 by Arsenal in their last match.

Sam Allardyce has told the Liverpool Echo that he believes Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davies put in performances which were a lot better than the rest of their teammates against Arsenal.

Everton were beaten 5-1 in their last match, and they were utterly abject at the Emirates Stadium.

The Toffees’ defence was ripped apart time after the time, in what was a humiliating defeat for Allardyce’s side.

Allardyce brought in youngsters Davies and Calvert-Lewin in the second half of the contest.

And the Everton boss claims that the prospects were the only two players to come out of the game with any credit.

He said: “The young lads did better than the older lads. Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were a lot better than the 11 who were on the pitch before them.”

Calvert-Lewin scored Everton’s goal in the contest, when he headed home from close range.

The manner of the Toffees’ defeat to Arsenal has heaped the pressure on Allardyce, with many supporters calling for him to be let go.

Everton are currently in 10th place in the Premier League table, but they have won just one of their last nine matches in all competitions.
