The West Ham United forward clearly wants to leave the club this month.
Sam Allardyce explained why West Ham might just be best off selling Marko Arnautovic this month, during a guest appearance on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday programme, suggesting that the Austrian could ‘switch off’ if he is made to stay at the London Stadium.
The 29-year-old joined the Hammers from Stoke City in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £20 million, and he has gone on to score 19 goals for the east London outfit.
Arnie has been heavily linked with a move to China over the past 10 days, however, although the latest reports suggests that his big money switch is off.
The Austrian was not part of the West Ham squad that traveled to Bournemouth on Saturday, and his future at the club remains shrouded in doubt.
Allardyce suggested that the Hammers should cash in on the enigmatic forward, during a guest appearance on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday programme, drawing comparisons with the Dimitri Payet situation two years ago:
“He’s the type of player that, when he wants to leave, you’re better off cashing in. His mentality will change. If the money is what they’re willing to take, they’re better taking it. Otherwise he might be one of those that’s switched off. You don’t want another situation like Payet.”
If West Ham do in fact decide to sell Arnautovic, Manuel Pellegrini must bring in an able-bodied replacement, but considering the 29-year-old’s talent, that will be far easier said than done.
