Sam Allardyce impressed by Tom Davies’ performances in Everton training

Everton midfielder Tom Davies scored for Sam Allardyce’s side against Crystal Palace.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has told The Times that Tom Davies has impressed him through his performances in training.

Davies had been consigned to a reserve role with the Toffees more recently, but he came back into Allardyce’s starting line-up against Crystal Palace at the weekend, and made a great impact.

Davies scored in Everton’s 3-1 victory over Palace, and Allardyce claims that the youngster forced his way back into contention through his performances in training.

“He asked what he needed to do to get back into the team,” Allardyce said.

“He didn’t ask me. He asked the coaching staff.

“They said, ‘Here are your training stats — lift up your training stats and you will have a better opportunity to get into the team’. His impressive work in training caught the eye.”

Davies could now stay in Everton’s team for the weeks ahead, as Allardyce’s side look to build on their win over Palace.

Davies looks likely to keep his place over the heavily criticised Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Toffees are currently in ninth place in the Premier League table, and they have now put eight points between themselves and the relegation zone.

Everton are next in action in two weekends’ time, when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road.
