Reports suggest the former Sunderland boss could quit Crystal Palace.

Sky Bet have immediately installed Sam Allardyce as 3/1 favourite to become the next permanent Sunderland manager, amid reports he wants to quit Crystal Palace.

The former Sunderland boss left the Stadium of Light shortly before the start of the campaign for England.

However, the 62-year-old’s stint in charge of the national team was somewhat short-lived, with an investigation by the Telegraph newspaper forcing him to resign a game into his tenure.

In the meantime, Sunderland were relegated to the Championship under David Moyes, with Allardyce saving Palace from suffering the same fate after being sworn in in December.

And the bookmakers seem think a return to Wearside could be on the cards for Big Sam, who pushes Nigel Pearson [9/2] and Kevin Phillips [6/1] to second- and third-favourites, respectively, on Sky Bet’s list of potential candidates.

Another former Sunderland boss Roy Keane [7/1] also features prominently, above Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes, Fulham’s Slavisa Jokanovic and Aitor Karanka, most recently of Middlesbrough [all 10/1].

Could Allardyce really return to Sunderland from Crystal Palace?
