Everton beat Newcastle United 1-0 at Goodison Park last night.
Allardyce has come under criticism from Everton fans, for failing to provide entertainment during his time in charge.
However, after the Toffees beat Newcastle 1-0 last night, Allardyce was in defensive mood.
He said: “What’s wrong with our style today?
“[We’ve] completely dominated the game and out-passed the opposition in the opposition’s half. We found it very difficult to break them down as obviously their negative tactic of dropping ten players in their own half.
“You have to be patient, we were patient but you couldn’t knock our football. You could knock passes going astray but in all fairness you can’t really blame me for that one, can you? I’m not out there passing the ball, the lads do.”
Allardyce’s comments, perhaps, show why he is a poor fit at Everton – as he seemingly does not understand the criticism.
There is little doubting that Allardyce has been effective since taking charge – only five teams in the Premier League have taken more points since his appointment.
However, if Allardyce felt that Everton’s style against Newcastle didn’t deserve to be questioned, then it raises further concerns.
The Toffees had just one shot on target during the contest, which resulted in a goal, and the match itself was a drab affair.
Newcastle did not show a great deal of attacking intent, but Everton were hardly swashbuckling themselves.
And if Allardyce feels that Everton’s style could not be questioned last night, then it must raise further concerns at Goodison Park.
