Everton Under-23 manager David Unsworth is a man reportedly in demand. Oxford United, Barnsley and Bradford City all have been linked with the 44-year-old former West Ham United defender.
According to Sky Sports, Unsworth has turned down the chance to become League One club Oxford’s new manager.
The Yorkshire Post has claimed that the former Everton defender would be interested in the Barnsley and the Bradford managerial jobs.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce has shared his opinion on what Unsworth should do regarding his future.
Allardyce told The Liverpool Echo about Unsworth: “David has expressed his will to be a manager. If David feels he has to take the opportunity to be a manager then there’s a lot of people who have worked with me and had that same desire and have gone on to be managers and been good managers.
“David has got a great position at the club at the moment, that’s a very difficult decision for him to give that up, I’m sure about that.
“Everton under-23s is a very privileged position and he has done very well in it. But if his desire is to be a manager then somewhere along the line he is going to have to take the plunge.”
Move away from Everton?
Unsworth is doing well as the Everton Under-23 manager, but one suspects that he will have ambitions to be in charge of the first team of a club.
What is important for the 44-year-old is that he makes sure that if he takes the job at Barnsley or Bradford, then it suits him and matches his ambition.
The former Sheffield United defender is in a stable job at Everton at the moment, while managing the first team of any club brings with it its own risk.
