Sam Allardyce told Sky Sports that Tottenham striker Harry Kane is ‘one of the best’ but he finds it ‘bewildering’ that not a single one of his West Brom players was marking him when he scored on Sunday.
Spurs recorded a comfortable 2-0 win against relegation-threatened West Brom, with the returning Kane bringing back the much-needed spark and attacking intent to Jose Mourinho’s side.
Whilst Spurs couldn’t knock down West Brom’s door in the first half, they got through with their star man nine minutes into the second period, and from then on, they sealed a comfortable victory.
After the game, Allardyce was left perplexed at his team’s defending against Kane and his partner in crime Heung-Min Son.
“You never let one of the best goalscorers probably in the world in your box free with the ball at his feet,” said Allardyce. “So, we paid the price for that.
“Harry Kane, in our box and nobody marking him, is somewhat bewildering to me. But there we go.
“Son and Harry Kane have scored because of our weaknesses in those areas, sadly, today. And if you give them those chances then they won’t miss.”

Without Kane, Spurs have looked well and truly lost in recent matches, but it just goes to show the difference he makes to the side.
But given that West Brom have conceded a whopping 54 league goals this season, both Kane and Son will perhaps be thinking how they didn’t add more to their tally.
Whilst those in the Midlands stare towards the exit door of relegation, Spurs will now be hoping to take a grip of this jam-packed European fight.
