Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has now scored two goals in his last five appearances.

Sam Allardyce looks on from the stand during the Premier League match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on November 29, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Sam Allardyce has claimed in the Liverpool Echo that Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson is starting to hit form now, as his fitness is improving.

Sigurdsson barely participated over pre season with Swansea City, which left him behind the rest of the Everton team.

After a big money transfer, much was expected of the attacking midfielder in his initial weeks at Goodison Park.

However, Sigurdsson failed to live up to the hype, with the Icelandic international struggling to find form.

Sigurdsson has been much improved of late though, and has scored twice in his last five appearances.

And Allardyce believes that Sigurdsson is now starting to get back to his best.

“There was a catch up in fitness – his pre-season (at Swansea) wasn’t very good I’m told,” the new Toffees boss said.

“You have to be patient but it seems like he’s getting to the top end of his match fitness now, he’s showing and improving more and more as time goes on.

“It’s about the whole team creating more opportunities and being more forward thinking.”

Sigurdsson’s next action for Everton will come against his former employers in Swansea.

The Swans have been in abject form this season, and currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table.

If Everton are able to get past Paul Clement’s side on Monday evening, it will continue their fine run of results since Allardyce took charge.
