Sam Allardyce kept the Black Cats in the Premier League during a dramatic 2015/16 season – but he won’t be returning to the Stadium of Light.

Sam Allardyce has admitted that there is ‘no chance’ that he will make an emotional return to Sunderland to replace the under-fire Jack Ross, speaking to Alan Brazil on talkSPORT (8 October, 9.40am).
Ross is under more pressure than ever at the Stadium of Light after a difficult start to the League One season. A 2-0 defeat to Lincoln City, a scoreline which actually flattered an abject Black Cats side, leaves Sunderland sixth in the table and eight points off the top heading into the October international break.
The Sun claims that 64-year-old Allardyce would be tempted by the chance to return to Wearside if Ross is sacked, particularly if the club’s US takeover goes through, but the man himself has now thrust a dagger into the hearts of Sunderland fans everywhere.
“Unfortunately not, there’s not a chance,” the former England manager said when asked about a second spell.
“I loved my time there but I don’t think it’s right to go back.”

Allardyce will forever remain a modern-day Sunderland legend after guiding the Black Cats to safety in the 2015/16 season, pulling off an act of escapology that even Houdini himself would have been proud off while relegating bitter rivals Newcastle United in the process.
For now, however, it seems unlikely that a man who has spent the vast majority of his career in the Premier League is not yet willing to drop down to the third tier.
