Allardyce is said to be in pole position for the vacant Everton position.
Sam Allardyce has given an update speculation linking him with the vacant Everton manager’s job.
Several media outlets reported on Tuesday that Allardyce has already held talks with Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
And it is claimed by the Daily Mirror (printed edition, back page) that the 63-year-old is currently in pole position for the role, with a decision on the identity of Ronald Koeman’s successor due this week.
But speaking to Talksport’s Jim White on Tuesday morning (10:27) the former England manager implied that a deal to take him to Everton is not close at all.
“I’m sat at home about to go to Scotland – St Andrew’s,” he told White – who is pictured above, left, with Moshiri and Bill Kenwright at Goodison Park on Sunday.
“I’ve got a League Managers’ Association masterclass up there so I shall be having a couple of games with one or two of my fellow managers that I know, hopefully, and have a couple of good days.”
When asked if he had received any contact from Moshiri or Everton, he replied: “No. No. No.”
But would he speak to them? “I think it’s like anything else. If somebody comes calling, if there’s the opportunity to speak there’s no doubt about that.”
Burnley’s Sean Dyche and Watford’s Marco Silva are the other names said to feature on Everton’s shortlist.
However, Allardyce’s out-of-work status makes him a far more attainable target at this stage of the campaign.
According to the Independent, Allardyce’s former club Crystal Palace would be due £2 million in compensation if he moves to another club.
