Tottenham Hotspur will be preparing for their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich tonight.
Sam Allardyce has suggested that Serge Aurier should be dropped by Tottenham as he questioned how long you should persist with a player that’s ‘not learning’.
Over the weekend, Aurier was sent off in the first half for two challenges in less than 10 minutes, with his first tackle on Southampton winger Boufal being pretty rash.
Luckily for Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino, that didn’t cost them the win because Harry Kane would go on to secure all the points for his side.
Speaking to The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on TalkSport (30/09/2019 at 6:55 am), Allardyce thinks Aurier has not learned ever since he walked through the doors of Tottenham.
“Aurier continues to do this reckless challenging,” Allardyce told TalkSport. “His fouls have been a part of his game ever since he arrived from PSG.
“He’s not learning from it! How long do you go on as a manager for what should be a top-four club and challenging for the title if you have a fullback that acts so recklessly?”
Spurs secured the signature of Aurier during the summer of 2017 when the North London club paid Paris Saint-Germain £23 million for his services [BBC Sport].
Initially, he was playing second fiddle to Kieran Trippier at right-back, but his departure earlier on in the summer, opened the door for him to take the role.
Youngster Kyle Walker-Peters has also played in that position this season, as has centre-back, Davinson Sanchez, with Pochettino having to make a decision as to who will be his regular man in that area.
