Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth in controversial circumstances yesterday.
Newcastle were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth at St. James’ Park in their most recent outing, but Rafael Benitez’s side could considering themselves unfortunate.
Gayle tapped the ball into an empty net during the first-half, but was adjudged to have been offside, when replays showed that he was in line with the last Bournemouth defender.
And Allardyce feels that if Newcastle had gone in front the whole game would have been different.
“I think it could have been a whole different story, because if they went 1-0 ahead, [they might have won],” Allardyce said. “It’s really unlucky for Newcastle.”
As it was, Bournemouth began to step up their game after they were afforded such a lucky escape.
The Cherries were the better team in the second-half, but it took them until injury time to finally break down Newcastle’s defence.
Bournemouth scored their winner through Steve Cook, when the powerful defender got his head on a late corner.
Newcastle have now lost their last two matches, and have slipped down to 11th place in the Premier League table.
