Crystal Palace have been reportedly linked with a move for Burnley’s Tom Heaton.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are interested in signing Tom Heaton in the summer transfer window.

The Burnley goalkeeper has enjoyed a great season, and is one of the best players in their current squad. He has been playing for the Clarets since 2013, and has made over 150 appearances for them.

He has been outstanding this season, and has proven himself in the Premier League.

The report says that both Palace and Newcastle would have to pay upto £15 million to secure his services.

When Sam Allardyce was asked to comment about Palace’s reported interest in the Burnley goalkeeper, he sounded diplomatic in his response.

“I’m not interested in who will come and go. When we’re secure and safe in the Premier League, as hopefully we are, we can talk about all the agents ringing in with their players,” said Allardyce, as quoted by The Standard.

“I’ll tell you if the agent is telling the truth or not.”

It is clear that Allardyce’s first priority is to secure safety for his team. He is not concerned about transfer rumours, and his comments suggest that there’s not much substance in the rumour.

Interestingly, in that same press conference Allardyce did talk about his desire to sign Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe. So, clearly it is a contradiction to his earlier statement of being “not interested in who will come and go”.

Palace have Wayne Hennessey and Steve Mandanda in their books, but Heaton certainly would be an upgrade on both of them.
