Aston Villa will stay in the Championship next season.

Villa manager Steve Bruce reacts after a near miss during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Middlesbrough at Villa Park on September 12, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Steve Bruce’s future is up in the air, with Aston Villa failing to get promoted to the Championship and Leeds United reportedly showing interest in him.

Villa lost to Fulham in the Championship playoff final last month, and that means that there are now FFP issues at the Villans.

The best Villa players may have to be sold in the summer transfer window, and the future of former Hull City manager Bruce is wrapped in uncertainty.

According to The Telegraph, Leeds, who have not featured in the Premier League since 2004, have already made contact regarding the services of Bruce.

The Express has claimed that the former Manchester United central defender could walk away from Villa if the club’s owner Tony Xia does not dismiss him.

Former Newcastle United and West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce, who is without a managerial job at the moment following his departure from Everton at the end of the past season, has given his take on Bruce’s situation, suggesting that he would need some assurances before deciding on his future.

Allardyce said on the The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Tuesday morning (06:23am, June 12, 2018) about Bruce’s future at Villa: “He is such an ambitious manager as we know, big friend of mine.

“He will not want to languish in the Championship too long, and he has always been exceptionally good in getting a team back into the Premier League.

“It just depends how much surgery needs to be done to put Aston Villa right financially, and whether he considers they do have a chance of getting promoted next season.”

Uncertain future

Bruce is one of the best managers in the Championship, and for Villa to prosper in the coming years they do need to keep hold of him.

If Bruce does leave the Villans this summer, he is unlikely to be without a managerial job for long.
