Sam Allardyce comments on the Everton pair after losing 4-0.
Sam Allardyce has suggested to The Liverpool Echo that Everton duo Yannick Bolasie and James McCarthy aren’t “quite as good” as they can be, but says the pair will get better.
Everton were torn apart by a Harry Kane-inspired Tottenham Hotspur side who romped to a 4-0 win over Allardyce’s troops on Saturday evening.
Midfielder McCarthy was nowhere near as influential as he had looked in recent weeks for the Toffees, and the same goes for Bolasie on the wing.
That being said, they are both only back from long-term injuries, with Bolasie spending a year on the sidelines with a knee injury.
And although Allardyce suggests both were below par against Spurs, the Everton boss is expecting both to improve significantly in the near future.
“I hope we do in the next week or two because I think we are waiting for catch-up on Yannick and James McCarthy,” he told The Liverpool Echo.
“They are not quite as good as we know they can be but still will get better.”
They will undoubtedly get better, yes. McCarthy proved his class in the visit of Manchester United last month, while Bolasie’s talent has been there for all to see in recent weeks and he’ll be determined to justify his £30 million price-tag, having joined the Goodison Park side in the summer of 2016.
