Tottenham Hotspur suffered a damaging defeat at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Sam Allardyce has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is ‘protecting’ himself following his ‘bold’ comments that Tottenham could be ’10 years’ away from winning the Premier League title.
Prior to Spurs’ 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Wednesday night, Pochettino felt that it could take a number of years before the London club become English champions, as quoted by Sky Sports.
In recent days, his team have suffered damaging defeats. Over the weekend, they lost to Burnley at Turf Moor before suffering a defeat against their London rivals.
Speaking to the Alan Brazil Breakfast Sports Show on talkSPORT (28/02/2019 at 6:10 am), Allardyce shared why Pochettino made the comments he did as he backed him for doing so.
“It’s a bold statement,” Allardyce told talkSPORT. “A statement of protection for himself, I think and rightly so, for him. I think he needs to play down all the noise as to what Tottenham is.
“Let’s face it, very little activity in the transfer market in the two seasons, so the reality has now kicked in over a long, hard summer and then long, hard season in the Premier League, they are not quite strong enough with the squad to cope.”

Tottenham’s plans to move into a new stadium have clearly halted their transfer business and resulted in them not being the force they want to in any domestic competition.
Despite not buying a single player during the summer and winter transfer windows, Pochettino has still showcased the remarkable job he is doing in north London as their league position dictates.
They are currently third in the table, nine points behind leaders Liverpool, four points ahead of fourth-placed Arsenal and a further five points ahead of Manchester United.
Following two disappointing results on the road, Spurs will turn their attention to their home clash against bitter rivals Arsenal on Saturday.
