Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Harry Kane’s fitness for the North London derby.
Kane has pulled out of England’s squad for their next two fixtures against Germany and Brazil.
But Pochettino has been quick to allay supporters’ fears that Kane could miss Spurs’ upcoming match against Arsenal.
The Tottenham striker’s withdrawal has now drawn some criticism from supporters of the England team, who suggest that Kane is putting club before country again.
And Allardyce feels that Pochettino could have helped to avoid the controversy by wording his fitness update on Kane differently.
“We’d have been much better off he didn’t say it, wouldn’t we? If he had just said ‘we will have to wait and see, Harry is improving well’ [this would’ve been avoided],” Allardyce said.
England’s next two matches are both friendlies, and Gareth Southgate has already suggested that he has no problems with Kane’ withdrawing.
Tottenham’s match over Arsenal in two weekends’ time could be vital to both side’s seasons.
If Spurs can beat their North London rivals it will strengthen their position in the top four, and leave them seven points clear of Arsene Wenger’s side.
