Sam Allardyce claims Everton still have too many wide-players

Marco Silva’s Everton side brought in two new wingers this summer, in a busy transfer window.

Sam Allardyce has told Sky Sports, during their deadline day coverage, that he believes that Everton still have too many wingers.

Allardyce was in charge at Everton last season, and he suggested that their squad was too bloated in certain areas.

The ex-England boss claimed that he would have looked to trim numbers in Everton’s squad this summer, if he was still in charge.

It is a tactic which Marco Silva has also employed, with a number of fringe players departing.

However, Allardyce feels that Everton still have far too many wide players to cope with.

“The spending was a little erratic [under Ronald Koeman],” he said.

“A lot of players fell in the same position, a lot of players could have been found in other areas.

“This time they’re trying to adjust that, but they’ve got far too many wide-man, I still think.

“They’ve gone for good players at a good age and with good potential.”

Everton have added Bernard and Richarlison to their squad this summer, who can play in the wide areas.

The Toffees also have Theo Walcott, Ademola Lookman and Yannick Bolasie, who can play as wingers.

Everton kick off their Premier League season with a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow.
