Everton suffered a terrible collapse at St James’s Park on Saturday.
Sam Allardyce has told beIN Sport that Everton boss Marco Silva is mostly to blame for Saturday’s capitulation at Newcastle United.
The Magpies scored three second-half goals to stun Everton, who led 2-0 at the break on Tyneside.
There was an element of controversy around Ayoze Perez’s winner for Newcastle on 84 minutes, with Silva arguing at full-time that the Spanish attacker was offside.
Nevertheless, former Toffees boss Allardyce believes that the Portuguese manager, who succeeded him at Goodison Park, deserves most blame for the collapse.
He told beIN Sport: “Everton feel a bit hard done by, but letting Newcastle back into the game having been 2-nil up is his own fault really. Don’t do it!
“Don’t let that happen and that situation wouldn’t have mattered as it would have made it 2-1.”
Allardyce is right. It is Silva’s fault. The buck always stops with the manager, regardless of the circumstance.
Yes, the goal which consigned Everton to defeat might’ve been offside, but the Merseysiders had chances to kill off that game long before United found a way back into it.
