Everton drew 1-1 at home with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
Everton boss Sam Allardyce has told Sky Sports that he has given striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin time off to recharge his batteries after such a huge workload this season.
The Toffees took on West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon, and were looking to snap a run of four defeats in a row in all competitions, but fell behind to Jay Rodriguez’s opener.
Everton did hit back with 20 minutes to play, as substitute Oumar Niasse came off the bench to bag the equaliser, handing the Toffees a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Manager Allardyce will have been pleased to have ended the losing run, and with the impact of substitute Niasse, who came on for new signing Cenk Tosun to rescue a point.
One player who wasn’t involved was fellow striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who wasn’t even named in the squad after playing such an important role this season.
The 20-year-old has stepped up when Everton lacked a striker, notching six goals and four assists in all competitions having developed into a real contributor for the Toffees.
Calvert-Lewin has though played 31 games in all competitions already this season, and has taken on a huge workload having led the line on his own for a large chunk of the campaign.
Now, Allardyce has told Sky Sports that he actually gave Calvert-Lewin the weekend off, citing that he is fatigued and needed to ‘go and chill’ over the weekend to recharge his batteries before coming back to first-team action.
“We’ve given Dominic (Calvert-Lewin) the weekend off because of the huge amount of games he’s played the fatigue he’s suffered so we said go and chill, rest and recharge your batteries and come back,” said Allardyce.
