Everton are set to sign a new forward in January, with Cenk Tosun heavily linked.

Sam Allardyce looks on from the stand during the Premier League match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on November 29, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Sam Allardyce has admitted to the Liverpool Echo that Everton cannot keep relying on getting penalties to solve their scoring problems.

Everton have been awarded seven spot kicks so far this season, which has helped to boost their goals tally.

But Allardyce is still concerned that there is a lack of forward options in his current squad, and has confirmed that a goalscorer is on his shopping list for January.

“We’re actively looking for more goals in the transfer window,” Allardyce said.

“It’s still a problem we have at the club and we can’t cloud the fact that we’ve had more penalties than any other club, but that won’t always happen.”

According to the Guardian, Cenk Tosun is the man who Everton have identified to become their new leading man up-front.

Tosun has scored 13 goals for the Turkish side this season, and the Toffees are reportedly set to pay £25 million to sign him up.

Everton are still looking to replace Romelu Lukaku, with their current forward options coming up short.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been Allardyce’s first choice striker to date, but he only has three goals to his name. Sandro Ramirez, meanwhile, has not adapted well to English football, and Oumar Niasse does not appear to be in favour.

Everton are next in action tomorrow, when they take on Bournemouth looking to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches.
