Sam Allardyce admits Everton cannot keep relying on Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has started for Everton in every match that Sam Allardyce has taken charge of so far.

Sam Allardyce has suggested to the Liverpool Echo that Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be taken out of Everton’s starting line-up, if he gets his way in the January transfer window.

Calvert-Lewin has started every league match for Everton since Allardyce took charge, with the youngster’s performances generally impressing.

Calvert-Lewin has lead the line well, with his pace and aerially ability causing defences problems.

But the England youth international only has three goals to his name in 20 appearances, and Allardyce admits that he cannot continue to rely on the prospect.

“Young Calvert-Lewin is battling away,” Allardyce said. “I think he’s got a bright future but I don’t think we can rely on him week in, week out at the moment.”

Calvert-Lewin has certainly benefitted from Everton’s struggles to find a prolific scorer this term.

Allardyce appears to have his doubts over Oumar Niasse, while Sandro Ramirez has looked out of sorts, and Wayne Rooney has been given a midfield role.

Calvert-Lewin may well lead the line again for Everton tomorrow, when they take on Bournemouth.

If the Toffees are able to avoid defeat, they will stretch their unbeaten run to eight games since Allardyce took charge.
