Sam Allardyce has praised Hammers signing Enner Valencia after his goal against Hull City last night.
Sam Allardyce said that Enner Valencia’s strike against Hull City last night is likely to win the West Ham United’s goal of the season award.
Valencia scored a belter in the club’s 2-2 draw with the Tigers and he is already earning praise from Allardyce.
The striker’s goal came as he dribbled across the pitch, before stopping, making a yard for himself and unleashing a fierce drive from 30-yards as he hit an unstoppable shot.
It was a display of why Allardyce parted with over £10 million to secure him from Mexican side Pachuca over the summer and the Hammers manager was clearly delighted to see the expensive outlay starting to be repaid.
“Our first goal is one of best we’ll see this season and we’ve seen some terrific goals already,” said Allardyce to Clubcall.
“The power and accuracy of the shot…it was past [Alan] McGregor before he could move.”
“It stunned the whole ground, the place went silent I think. It was that good a goal but it was very important to get back in the game.”
The goal helped West Ham pick up a point in a game which they could ill-afford to lose.
Allardyce’s side currently sit on four points after a rather disappointing start to season, but the Hammers boss was relatively pleased by his side’s performance last night and felt they deserved at least the draw they got.
“I thought we then took control for long periods and we had one or two chances to score but then we gifted them the second,” he said.
“I’m thinking ‘come on lads, you can’t allow us to play like this and not get anything’ and we did bounce back very quickly.”
Valencia will next be in action for his new side at the weekend when they take on Liverpool, as they look to pick up their first home win of the campaign.
