Rondon came off the bench to make his Newcastle debut on Saturday.
Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has told the club’s official website that he was impressed with the atmosphere generated by fans at St. James’ Park on Saturday, as he made his debut against Tottenham.
Rondon, 28, has joined Newcastle on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion and came off the bench for the final third of the match after Spaniard Joselu had started for The Toon.
However, the Venezuela international could not score a debut goal as Spurs held onto a 2-1 lead over Rafa Benitez’s side – though former Malaga and Zenit striker Rondon did hit the post with five minutes left.
Speaking to the club’s website, Rondon spoke of the crowd and the noise they made as he joined Yoshinori Muto in making his debut for the club – with the Japanese forward coming on in the last 10 minutes.
“We came onto the pitch, it was open, and we just tried to help the team and score goals, of course. The (atmosphere) when I came on was very nice – it was very nice for me,” Rondon said.
“I was very happy, and proud to make my debut. It was a pleasure, and I have to keep going to help the team. Settling is a difficult process – you have to find a house, and get kids settled in the schools, but I hope it can be quick. I am very happy.”
Newcastle fans will be hoping that Rondon can fire their club to Premier League safety and into mid-table obscurity this season, though Joselu will have done his chances no harm as he opened his account for this season.
The Toon are next in action on Saturday as they travel to Wales to face newly-promoted Cardiff City, who suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss to AFC Bournemouth on the opening day of the season.
It remains to be seen if Rondon will start, with Muto and Joselu acting as competition.
