According to The Mirror, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on landing Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah to strengthen his back line.

The Reds have been the Premier League’s top attacking side so far, scoring 30 goals in just 11 games this season – but they’ve also conceded 14 goals, the most of any team in the top seven of the division.

Manager Klopp may look to pursue defensive reinforcements, as whilst Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren have emerged as Liverpool’s first-choice centre back partnership, Mamadou Sakho’s absence from the squad means that Ragnar Klavan is the only recognised cover at centre back.

Just a week after The Mirror reported that Leicester City and West Ham United want to sign Sakho, who hasn’t featured at all this season, The Mirror now claim that Liverpool could make a move for another central defender in Jonathan Tah.

The 20-year-old has been starring for Bayer Leverkusen ever since his 2015 move from Hamburg, making 29 league appearances last season as well as playing ten games in Europe across the Champions League and Europa League.

Already a German international with two caps to his name, Tah has been tipped for a huge future, and the 6ft 3in centre back possesses great pace and power, which would certainly help him in the Premier League.

He still has plenty of developing to do yet, but if Sakho does leave in January, Tah would make sense as a player to either play alongside Matip or sit and learn behind Lovren for a while until ready for the Premier League.

German boss Klopp has already used his knowledge of the Bundesliga to his advantage in the transfer market by landing Loris Karius, Klavan and Matip from Mainz, Augsburg and Schalke respectively, and he could head back to his homeland again to snap up Tah in January.
