The West Ham United striker is close to securing a move to Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson made it clear that he intended to bring in a striker during this month’s transfer window and the club are reportedly close to signing Diafra Sakho from West Ham United.
Sakho, who has struggled for regular playing time at West Ham, is set to undergo a medical at Palace after a fee of £10 million was agreed between the two clubs, as reported by The Telegraph.
Palace, having mustered just 20 goals in the Premier League so far this season, certainly needed to sign a striker, but it is questionable as to whether Sakho is the best option for them.
The Senegalese attacker has mustered just 24 goals in 71 appearances for West Ham since joining the club in 2014 and isn’t guaranteed to be the answer to Palace’s struggles.
While Sakho will provide pace and ingenuity, Hodgson could be left to regret his decision to bring in the 28-year-old, especially if Palace, who are currently in 14th place in the Premier League table, end up being relegated.
Christian Benteke has been disappointing this season and has scored just once in the top flight for Palace, but it is arguabe that, with his hold-up play and physical strength, the Belgian is still a superior option to Sakho.
Palace are next in action on Saturday, when they host Burnley in the Premier League.
