Ralph Hasenhuttl has steered Southampton to much improved displays in the week just gone but the Saints remain in relegation trouble.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to respond to James Ward-Prowse’s rallying comments as the Saints seek to get themselves out of Premier League relegation trouble.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s charges have endured a poor start to the season and currently sit 18th in the standings, although they put in much-improved performances in the back-to-back games against Manchester City in the League Cup and top flight.

Following the abysmal 9-0 home loss to Leicester, there were real fears of Pep Guardiola’s side putting in even more emphatic displays against the Saints at the Etihad, but luckily they did not materialise, as a 3-1 loss in the cup was followed up by a narrow 2-1 defeat in the league.

Indeed, Ward-Prowse – who has started all of his side’s 11 Premier League games this term – opened the scoring against Man City on Saturday, the hosts not drawing level until midway through the second half, before Kyle Walker broke Southampton’s hearts four minutes from time with a late winner.

“We’re all out there together; the team, the manager, the coaching staff, all the physios,” Ward-Prowse is quoted by the Saints media team as saying. “Everyone’s together and striving in the same direction. We’ve got a good chance of progressing if we’re all doing that for each other.”

His comments were met with a fairly mixed reaction by the St Mary’s faithful, with some staying optimistic and others a little more cynical:

Up next for Ralph Hasenhuttl and co is the weekend Premier League meeting with Everton at St Mary’s Stadium.
