Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Paul Merson has been discussing Leeds United after their win against Southampton at the weekend.

Leeds pulled clear of the relegation zone against the Saints on Saturday, but it was a largely uninspiring performance that didn’t show too much promise.

Merson was less than impressed, as was his fellow Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison.

Indeed, Merson says that while covering the game for Soccer Saturday at the weekend, Morrison continuously told him off-camera that he thought both Leeds and Southampton were going to be relegated this season.

Both going down

Merson shared what Morrison kept telling him about these two teams.

“Clinton Morrison was sat next to me on Soccer Saturday watching Leeds vs Southampton and he must have said to me five times, ‘These two are getting relegated’. I worry for them. Southampton had a great result against Chelsea but you have to follow that up by not getting beat by Leeds. That’s why they’re at the bottom of the league,” Merson said.

Every chance

Morrison’s comments may seem a bit harsh, but, to be honest, he could be right.

Leeds are far from safe right now, while Southampton are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.

Yes, you could say that Leeds are enjoying a bit of a resurgence under Javi Gracia, but the reality is that a 1-0 win at home against the team at the bottom of the league isn’t a sign of life in the relegation fight.

Make no mistake about it, Leeds are in trouble, and they could well be going down alongside Southampton this season.
