Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing reported Liverpool target, Jude Bellingham, once again.

The pundit has been a huge fan of the Borussia Dortmund midfielder for the longest time now and it seems as though he’s winning everyone round at this World Cup.

Indeed, Wright was singing his praises, and he shared a conversation he had with Roy Keane during their punditry on ITV on Sunday.

Wright says that, off the air, Keane admitted that Bellingham is a better player now than Keane was at the end of his career, but, true to character, the Irishman didn’t want to share that sentiment on TV.

Keane’s Bellingham praise

Wright shared what Keane said to him about the teenager.

“He’s nineteen. It’s very hard to comprehend because when I was 19, I was still barely talking properly,” Wright said.

“Roy Keane said to me ‘he’s better than me when I finished.’ That’s what Roy Keane said. He said: ‘At 19, I can’t even get into the realms of where he is now. He’s better than me now the way he’s playing.’ The way Roy is, he said ‘make sure you correct me when we’re on air’, but the way he said it. He said exactly that.”

Huge praise

Praise doesn’t come much bigger than this.

Roy Keane is the last person to ever admit that anyone is better than him, but even he has had to hold his hands up and hail Bellingham’s ability.

The 19-year-old is a remarkably talented player, and technically, he is better than Roy Keane was at the moment.

Of course, Keane’s best qualities were largely regarding his leadership and attitude – two things Bellingham has yet to show over a long period of time, so to compare the two players on the whole is quite tough.

One thing is for sure though, Bellingham looks a talent.
