Speaking on the All to Play For Podcast, Joe Cole has given his view on Newcastle’s managerial situation, publicly giving Frank Lampard his backing.
Cole and Lampard are, of course, former teammates having played together for Chelsea and England, and Cole believes that the 43-year-old would be good for the Magpies.
The pundit says that the former England international would be brilliant due to the fact he knows the Premier League inside and out, while he’s also been in the dressing room during a takeover in the past, playing through the Roman Abramovich revolution at Stamford Bridge.
What’s been said?
Cole gave his view on Lampard potentially managing Newcastle.
“We had Frank on a few weeks ago, we know he’s itching to get back, I think that’s a safe pair of hands. I know he’s only been managing for a few years, but he knows the Premier League inside out. He could lean on so many people, he has his uncle Harry who he could lean on. Frank would be a safe pair of hands. And with his experience at Chelsea, he’s had a front-row seat and will know how the dressing room will be after the takeover,” Cole said.

Great point
We’ve heard so many arguments about why so many managers should be considered by Newcastle, but Cole makes a great point here.
Lampard is one of very few footballers that actually knows how to navigate a takeover by a multi-billionaire, he saw how it all played out at Chelsea and he saw just how successful it could be.
Of course, Lampard is no 2005-era Jose Mourinho, but Newcastle aren’t looking to win the Premier League in the next two years, they need to stabilise and lay the foundations, and Lampard would be able to do just that.
