How much did Liverpool sell Sadio Mane for?

Well, perhaps not enough.

Bizarrely, the Reds haven’t won a Premier League outing since selling the Senegal international to Bayern Munich this summer.

Mane himself is flying in Germany and HITC Sport wrote on Monday about how he has already scored five goals for the Bundesliga outfit.

Liverpool are having a rotten season, however – and it got worse last night.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops slumped to a 2-1 defeat away to Manchester United which, considering they lost 4-0 at Brentford prior to that, was an awful result for the visitors.

There’s no doubt Mane – who netted over 100 goals under Klopp – was a massive player for Liverpool during a six-year spell on Merseyside.

But was he more important that people believed at the time?

Possibly, and that’s what Trevor Sinclair has hinted at on Twitter. Here’s a tweet he sent last night.

How much did Liverpool sell Mane for?

Fenway Sports Group picked up a tidy £35 million figure for the former Southampton winger.

And considering he was out of contract next summer, and 30 years old, it looked like a major bargain.

All things considered, it was definitely a good figure, but perhaps not enough emphasis was placed on the question ‘what would Liverpool be losing by selling him?’

It’s too early to tell, but we do know that Mane was probably a lot more important than people thought, as Sinclair has intimated.
