The Liverpool forward has addressed one minor criticism of him.

Sadio Mane has proved an instant hit at Liverpool following a £35 million switch from Southampton.

The Senegalese forward has netted three Premier League goals for the Reds so far, as well as bagging one assist.

With Liverpool also in contention for the Premier League title at the moment, Jurgen Klopp’s side sitting two points behind top-of-the-table Manchester City, there seems to be plenty for the 24-year-old to smile about.

But Mane says that his detractors have noticed a reluctance on his part to smile too often in a claim which he former Red Bull Salzburg man rejects.

“Some people say I don’t smile enough. I think that’s wrong. I’m usually smiling and having a laugh in training because I enjoy football,” he told Liverpool’s magazine, quoted by The Liverpool Echo.

“Ronaldinho always did that and I’ve always tried to copy him. I think footballers have plenty of reasons to smile. We have a great job that everybody would like to have.”

Whether he plays with a smile or a frown, Liverpool fans won’t care providing he plays with the same pace and energy that he has done since his arrival.

It is early days, but you get the impression that Mane will play a huge role in whatever Klopp’s side goes on to achieve in the Premier League this season.

The German would probably take a top-four finish if you offered it to him, but from what the Reds and Mane have done so far, Klopp might also have genuine hopes of leading the Merseyside club to the title.
