Speaking to Marca, Sadio Mane explained that he would be happy to exchange his Champions League triumph with Liverpool for an African Cup Of Nations victory with Senegal this summer.

The 27-year-old was one of Liverpool’s stars last season as Jurgen Klopp’s men beat fellow Premier League side Tottenham to lift their sixth Champions League title.

Mane finished the campaign with a stunning return of 26 goals in all competitions and also shared the Golden Boot award with teammate Mo Salah and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the league.

The Senegalese international’s brace against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the Champions League was one of the biggest reasons why the Reds went further in the competition but Mane has revealed that he would swap that for an AFCON title with Senegal this summer.

“Winning the competition with our country, who have never won, would be amazing. I would swap the Champions League with Liverpool for an African Cup win with Senegal. We’d have an extraordinary return home. It’s my big dream,” he said.

Mane sat out Senegal’s opening game victory against Tanzania on Sunday but he is expected to return for the big match against Algeria on Thursday.

The former Southampton man is clearly one of the best players in the competition which gives Senegal a big advantage, especially since he is at the top of his game.

He continued: “It’s in our hands. It’s clear that we’re one of the favourites. We can’t deny it. It’s not just enough to get results, but we have to be at our best level in every match.”

Mane’s leadership in attack for his country will be crucial in their pursuit of their first ever African Cup of Nations win but his comments over giving up the Champions League for it could have a irked a small section of Liverpool fans.
