Matt Le Tissier has said on the ‘What’s Jeff?’ podcast that he is surprised at the consistency level of Liverpool forward Sadio Mane since he moved from Southampton.

The Southampton legend has said that Mane was hit and miss when he was at the Saints.

The former Sky Sports pundit has been stunned at how consistent the 29-year-old Senegal international forward is now at Liverpool.

Mane joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer of 2016.

BBC Sport reported at the time that the Reds paid £34 million for the forward.

Le Tissier said to Liverpool legend Phil Thompson about Mane on the ‘What’s Jeff?’ podcast: “When he was at Southampton, he was a little bit hit and miss, but his consistency level seems to have gone through the roof since he has gone to your place.”

Another level

Mane was younger when he was at Southampton, and we can understand why he was not performing week in and week out.

Moreover, the forward was not playing for a top team, and there was not always the pressure to win each and every game and to win by playing good football.

Just like all players have to do when they move to a bigger club, Mane has stepped up his game and is now one of the best players in his position in the world.

The 29-year-old may not get as many goals as his Liverpool teammate and fellow forward Mohamed Salah does, but his importance in manager Jurgen Klopp’s team cannot undermined at all.

The Liverpool no.10 has scored three goals in five Premier League appearances so far this season.
